Girija Vyas Bio
Girija Vyas is an Indian politician who is also a well-known poet and author. She served as the Member of the 15th Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India from the Chittorgarh constituency. She was also the former President of the National Commission of Women of India.

Early life and Education
Girija Vyas was born on 8th July 1946 in Nathdwara Rajputana Agency, British India. Currently, she is 75 years old as of 2021. Her father’s name was Krishna Sharma and her mother’s name was Jamuna Devi Vyas.
She has obtained a Doctorate in Philosophy. She taught at the Mohanlal Sukhadia University of Udaipur and the University of Delaware.
Moreover, she has written eight books. Among them three contain poetry including Ehsas ke Par which has her Urdu poems, Seep and Samundar aur Moti which has both Hindi and Urdu poems. Further, her book Nostalgia is enriched with English verses.
Political career
In 1985, she was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Udaipur, Rajasthan as a candidate of the Indian National Congress. She became Minister in the Government of Rajasthan and served that position till 1990. In 1991, she was elected to the Indian Parliament and represented Udaipur, Rajasthan in the Lok Sabha. She was appointed as a deputy minister of Information and Broadcasting in the Federal Government of India under the ministry of Narsimha Rao.
From 1993 onwards, she served as President of the All India Mahila Congress. From 1993 to 1996 she was a member of the Consultative Committee served in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural gas and was also a member of the Standing committee on House and External Affairs. In 1996, she was re-elected to the 11th Lok Sabha. Then from 1996 onwards, she was a member of the Committee on Rajbhasha and a member of the Committee on Empowerment of women.
Furthermore, she was also a member of the Standing Committee on Petroleum and a member of the State Committee and Ministry of Home Affairs. In 1999, she was re-elected to the 13th Lok Sabha. Then from 1999 to 2000, she was a member of the Committee on Petroleum and Chemicals.
From 2009 to 2004, she was the president of the Rajasthan Provincial Congress Committee. Presently, she is Chairperson, Media Department of All India Congress Committee, and a member of Indo-EU civil society.
In 2005, she served on the position of the chairperson of the Fifth National Commission for Women and held that position till 2011.
In 2008, she was elected as MLA in Rajasthan.
Moreover, in 2013 she served as Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.
