Anusuiya Uikey is an Indian politician who is currently serving as the Governor of Chhattisgarh. In the 1985 Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election, she was elected to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Damua as a member of the Indian National Congress. She has also served as Minister for Women and Child Development in the Arjun Singh Cabinet. In 2006, she became a member of Rajya Sabha, the upper house of parliament from Madhya Pradesh.
Personal details
Anusuiya Uikey was born on 10 April 1957 in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, India. Currently, she is 64 years old as of 2021. Her nationality and citizenship are Indian. Her father’s name was Late Shri Lakhan Lal Ji Uikey.
She has a degree in MA Economics and also an LLB degree. After she examined University, she was likely to be a lecturer of Economics from 1982 to 1985 in a Government college, Tamia of district Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh. After resigning from government service, she contested in the Assembly Elections. She previously worked as an agriculturist and social worker.
She has been participating in social and political activities since her college days.
She resides at Raj Bhavan in Raipur.
Political career
She is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. From 1985 to 1990, she served as a member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Damua constituency.
From 1988 to 1989, she served as Minister of the women and child development department in the Madhya Pradesh government.
She has also served as former Deputy Chairman of the National Tribal Commission. She has been a member of various commissions at the state and national levels.
She has also traveled abroad to countries like Moscow, Genova, London, Malaysia, Zambia, Malawi, Botswana, etc while holding the post of MLA and MP in the government. According to some reports, she visited 80 districts of 22 States for the empowerment of tribal women, and then she presented the report to the honorable Prime Minister of that time Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
From 2006 to 2012, she served as a member of the Rajya Sabha.
On 16 July 2019, she was appointed as 6th Governor of Chhattisgarh state under Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. She was preceded by Anandiben Patel. Currently, she is serving the position of Governor of Chhattisgarh.
She was also awarded Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Fellowship on 16 December 1990 for a particular work done for the upliftment of Dalit society.
